10 Foods That Will Kill You!

You’re probably aware of all the foods that are good for you, like fresh fruits and vegetables, but do you know about the foods that can kill you? These unhealthy foods can lead to some serious health problems, especially if you eat them regularly. Want to know what they are? Well, keep reading!

1. Low-Fat Foods

A lot of people think that they are being healthy by purchasing foods that are labeled as “low fat”. Unfortunately this is not the case, as most of these foods are packed with unhealthy chemicals to make up for the lack of fat. These chemicals are extremely bad for your body and can even damage your health over time.

2. Margarine

People choose margarine over butter because it doesn’t have cholesterol in it, but what you need to pay attention to is what IS in it! Margarine is extremely high in trans-fat, which can damage your blood vessels and even increase your cholesterol.

3. Fruit Juice

A lot of shoppers think they are healthy when they purchase fruit juice, but these are actually very bad for the body. Not only are most made with artificial flavors and not any real fruit, they are packed full of sugar and other chemicals that can cause obesity and other serious health problems. Even real fruit juice is packed full of sugar that provides you with no nutritional value. It’s best to eat a piece of fruit instead of drink it, unless you’re juicing your own fresh fruits and vegetables at home.

 4. Processed Meats
The chemicals that are inside of processed meats have been linked to colon cancer and many other health problems. They are also packed full of sugar, salt and fat that can lead to obesity and diabetes. You’re always better off cooking your own meat from lean cuts and avoiding the processed meats all together.

5. Energy Bars

Energy bars are marketed as healthy snacks for people who want to lose weight and get fit. Unfortunately a lot of people don’t read the nutritional information on these bars in the first place. Many of them are made with a lot of sugar and fat, even though they are high in protein. You’re better off staying away from these and reaching for a natural snack, like almonds and cheese, instead.

6. Frozen Dinners and Lunches

Sure those frozen meals are convenient, but what price do you pay for that convenience? These frozen dinners, even those that are low in calories, are really high in sodium. They are also extremely processed, which means they really put your body through a lot of work in order to digest through your body.

7. Breakfast Cereals

There are really only a few breakfast cereals on store shelves today that are actually good for you. Even those that are labeled “healthy” generally turn out to be packed full of sugar and fat. You might be surprised to find that most of the cereals you love have more sugar than your dessert does! On top of all of that, cereals are normally processed quite a bit and made with chemicals to make them seem “healthier” to the consumer.

8. Doughnuts
Speaking of breakfast foods, who doesn’t love a sugary doughnut when they are running late to start the day? Although they may taste good, these are a huge source of sugar, fat, trans fat and carbohydrates. In fact, just one of these fried treats is generally well over 300 calories. Since most people tend to eat more than one, this can lead to quick weight gain without even realizing it.

9. Soda

Regular soda is a huge source of sugar and a variety of other chemicals that have been linked to several different types of cancer. These provide absolutely no nutritional value to you and can lead to diabetes as well. Even diet soda carries risks, as it’s made with a lot of chemicals to make up for the lack of sugar, and these have been linked to diseases and cancers.

10. Potato Chips

Before you reach for that bag of potato chips; think again! These are filled with a lot of fat and calories, but did you know they are also loaded with dangerous chemicals? Most chips are made with acrylamide, which is created when foods are fried at extremely high temperatures. This chemical is linked to cancer, which can result in death.

Mindful Eating - What Is It, And How Can It Help You Be Healthier?

 -->
It is all too easy to engage in mindless eating. Perhaps you've had a long and stressful day, and you turn on the television to relax and tune out. Grabbing a bag of chips, you settle down on the sofa, only to discover after just a few minutes that you've eaten all the chips! If this sounds like your life, you will benefit from learning how to eat mindfully.

We engage in mindful eating when we stay present, in the 'now', when we are eating. We are aware of every bite of food that we eat - of the flavors and the textures, the aromas and the sensation of chewing. When we tune out and eat mindlessly, we often eat far more calories than are healthy and often feel sick and unhappy with ourselves afterwards. Mindful eating typically leads to healthier food choices, benefiting our waistline and our self esteem as a result.
-->

Most of us have 'trigger foods' - those food items that we simply cannot resist and tend to eat in extreme quantities. They are the foods that elicit the exact opposite of mindful eating! For some of us, this is chocolate, or junk food. Take a few minutes to think about your trigger foods - what are they? Once you have identified them, make a commitment to not keep them in your house anymore and not purchase them at the store! You'll only cause yourself the mental anguish that comes from overeating if you keep those food items around. The first few weeks without your trigger foods will likely be the most difficult, as you will probably find yourself experiencing cravings for them. These cravings will pass with time, and within just a few weeks, you will find it much easier to resist them.

Do your meals look visually attractive? It's hard to get excited about food that just looks blah and ho hum, isn't it? Making your food more visually appealing will help you stay in the present while you eat. And if your tendency is to gulp down several bites of food while standing at the sink or watching the television, step away and have your meal at the kitchen table.

It can be easy to eat far more than we should when we are in a highly emotional state. Avoid reaching for food when you feel angry or sad or anxious, as you will eat more than you intend, and then on top of your original negative emotions, you will also be dealing with feelings of disappointment over your overeating. Instead, call a friend and talk though your feelings, or go for a run and pound your feelings out on the pavement. Write in your journal.

Mindful eating will help you feel more connected to your food. When you stay in the present, you are more likely to eat less and to make healthier choices. You deserve a healthy body, and this is one way to get it!

9 Best Healthy Foods We Are Not Eating

-->

When we shop at the market or go to a restaurant our first thought is to get food we like to eat and know. There are several foods out there that do not often make it into the shopping cart.

We always think that we don't want that or don't have time to fix that, but the reality is it doesn't take any more time to prepare a well balanced and nutritious meal than going to the drive through and getting something unhealthy when you calculate the time it takes to get through a line of ten cars or ten people in the restaurant.

Below you will find a list of nine foods you should be eating and reasons why.
-->

Healthy Food #1 - Beets
The first item on the list is beets. Yeah, I know. I'm not one for beets either, but if you pick up a fresh beet from the supermarket rather than the can you will be getting a better taste as well as a healthy food. The beet is like red spinach it offers you a great source of folate and betaine. These are two nutrients that can help you lower your blood levels and decrease your risk of heart disease. Sounds pretty good right?

Healthy Food #2 - Cabbage
Cabbage is another source of great vitamins and you don't just have to through it in a salad. You can put cabbage on burgers, eat it in coleslaw, or even Asian style cabbage in your next Chinese dinner dish. Cabbage is just 22 calories of food and contains so many vitamins, it is one of the reason those on an Asian or European diet are healthier. You will find that cabbage contains sulforaphane, which helps boost your immunity to breast cancer. There are many healthy foods that can actually help us fight disease, so you may
want to start eating a few.

Healthy Food #3 - Guava
Guava is not a very popular fruit in some cultures, but it is one of the best fruits to take. Guava contains lycopene, which is an antioxidant that fights prostate cancer. You will find that tomatoes and watermelon have some of the lycopene, but it isn't as much as guava. Guava actually has a sweeter flavor than other fruits. It is less acidic so it usually goes down great. For those who can't handle oranges or pineapple this is a pretty great treat. You can eat the fruit plain, make a juice, or have a fruit bowl with bananas and other fruits that also offer you some great nutrients.

Healthy Food #4 - Swiss Chard
Swiss Chard is not a popular item by any means, but again it is very healthy for you. Swiss Chard is a leafy green, which is found in the Mediterranean. You will find that this particular plant contains lutein and zeaxanthin along with carotenoids that help with your eyesight. The carotenoids help reduce the damage of aging to the retinas. This particular plant is good with steak or chicken after it has been steamed.

Healthy Food #5 - Cinnamon
Who doesn't love cinnamon? Surprisingly many of us don't get enough cinnamon. You don't have to have cinnamon in a cinnamon roll, but you can certainly add it to many recipes. It is a great way to help reduce your blood sugar and the risk of heart disease. You can just sprinkle it on oatmeal or even in your coffee depending on what you like most.

Healthy Food #6 - Purslane
Purslane is a vegetable found in Mexico, China, and Greece among other countries. It is a broad leaved weed. You will find this edible plant has more melatonin in it than other fruits and vegetables. This means that you will have an antioxidant in your body that naturally reduces the risk of cancer. Most often this purslane is found among salads.

Healthy Food #7 - Pomegranate
Going back to juices for a minute you will find that the pomegranate juice is one of the most highly recommended juices to purchase. Everyone used to drink orange juice, but now it is pomegranate juice. The pomegranate juice regulates your body, by offering more energy as well as helping to reduce blood pressure. 4 ounces of pomegranate juices provides 50 percent of your daily vitamin C needs as well.

-->

Healthy Food #8 - Goji Berries
Goji Berries is another great fruit to help you reduce the risk of disease; specifically you will help reduce the likelihood of having diabetes when you eat these berries. The Goji Berries are a medical food from Tibet. They have been around for more than 1700 years. You will find that they have an antioxidant that helps reduce diabetes because it offers a way to reduce insulin resistance. You can eat them as a juice, plain, or with yogurt.

Healthy Food #9 - Plums
Plums, especially dried plums which are prunes are another healthy source of food. Prunes offer chlorogenic acid, and antioxidants that are able to reduce the risk of cancer. You will find that prunes are also a great help in regulating the body if you suffer from constipation. You can eat the prunes by themselves or sprinkle them over a prosciutto and back for a few

Healthy Foods - All About Good Things To Eat!

Did you know that our society is in the midst of a health craze? Any way you turn there is information about being healthier. Eating healthy foods is obviously one of the best ways to improve your health. However when people hear those two words they think of boring, bland foods that are widely available as a natural food co-op. Although healthy foods are things that you have eaten almost every day, at times just prepared in a different way.

Healthy foods as well as eating habits are pleasing both to the palate and plate. However one must remember that healthy foods is that the closer the food is to its natural state the healthier it is for you. Firstly you can start changing your eating habits to more healthy foods by cutting down on the number of prepared foods that you eat. Prepackaged foods are loaded with preservatives and artificial ingredients. Sure packaged foods are convenient, but healthy foods can be also, especially once you get into the habit of preparing them.

Healthy foods are very easy to prepare. In fact it doesn't take much time or money to eat healthy foods. Here is a simple example of a fantastic meal that is easy to prepare, low-priced and features healthy foods. Grill lean hamburger patties until well-cooked. Next place the patties on whole grain all natural hamburger buns. You can serve the burgers with a large tossed salad as well as a side of steamed green beans. Follow this easy meal with a serving of fresh fruit for dessert. This meal can be on your table in less than half an hour and involves all healthy foods.

Grilling or baking lean meats, fish or chicken does not take to long to prepare. Tossing a salad of fresh greens and vegetables can easily be done while the meat is cooking. Alternatively you can round out the meals by using fresh or frozen vegetables. For added variety to your meals you can try using different healthy foods that you haven't tasted before. Check the produce section of your local grocer which is stocked with a whole range of healthy foods including exotic fruits and vegetables. A good number produce sections offer recipes and tips to show how to prepare fruits and vegetables that you may not be familiar with. This is a great way to expose your children to a variety of healthy foods. Of course, you can experiment with many different fresh herbs that are also available in the produce sections that you can try to add different tastes to your meals.

You can prepare healthy foods on a regular basis to prepare fast nutritious meals. Healthy foods can also be used in more exotic recipes when you have the time. Healthy foods can also be prepared ahead of time and frozen for later use. You can be assured that when you prepare your own frozen foods, you know that they are not full of artificial additives and preservatives. Encourage children to get involve in the preparation of the healthy foods, thus creating a time when each can share about their day. Eating healthy foods do not have to cost you time or money, and they are certainly a better option for you.
